Captivating and Functional Dining Room

Our clients were moving into a newly constructed home.  They wanted to carve out a space in the dining room for a home office, while at the same time have both formal and casual dining options. We also wanted to bring warmth to an area that was primarily gray and white. Another challenge was that family members had different design styles.

Project Overview:

The solution was to create a transitional dining space that blends traditional elements with contemporary pieces for an elevated organic visual experience.  We created a workspace by installing a custom-designed room partition in dark chocolate with a vertical organic pattern that would draw the upward. Salvaged mahogany from their previous home’s front porch was used to create a traditional-style desk. The dining area is anchored with a custom-sized natural fiber rug in a neutral hue.  The satement piece is a modern glass dining table with wrapped unfilled stone pillars, similar to travertine, in rich shades of gray and beige, accented with acid bronze finished metal. Leather and canvas dining chairs that reflect both French Country style and an Asian Soji screen compliment and soften the glass and stone table.  Over-sized pendant lights in hammered bronze were installed above the kitchen island. The family’s existing bar stools provide seating for casual dining on the island.  Softly tinted cellular shades and vertically patterned drapery add warmth and texture while highlighting the view of the mountains.
